poll result. the other one that came out this weekend, michigan, and mitt romney is at the top. no surprise here. listen, romney was born in michigan. his father a former governor there. very popular. romney won the primary there back in 2008. he was expected to win. but perry did go up to michigan and campaign and he was a distant second. for perry, i think a lot of people are saying that those uneven debate performances, especially last week and the attacks on rick perry over his stance on illegal immigration, may be taking a toll. one other thing from the debates or from the straw polls, michele bachmann nowhere to be seen near the top. remember she won the straw poll in iowa in august. but she finished very low down in both of these straw polls. one thing about those, they are important. they are a gauge or a test or a barometer of a campaign with a lot of activists. they are not the end all and be all. if they were, herman cain or ron paul would be the nominee, and nobody thinks that is very likely, kyra. >> mitt romney going to meet with donald trump today. what is it abo

of weekend straw poll votes. front-runner rick perry came in a distant second in both michigan and florida. mitt romney won the michigan straw poll. that's not particularly shocking since romney was born in michigan and his father was a michigan governor. the big surprise was in florida where underdog herman cain pulled off a stunning upset. cain got 37% of the vote in the presidency five straw poll. perry only got 15%. we'll talk it over in our "fair game" segment next hour. >>> one of two fullerton, california police officers charged with beating a homeless man to death entered a not guilty plea today. man well ramos is charged with second degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in connection with the july 5th death of 37-year-old kelly thomas. we've been following this case here on the show. prosecutors say the homeless man begged for his life as ramos and another officer tasered him an beat him. the judge has scheduled a november 4th pretile hearing for ramos. that is the same day as a scheduled hearing for the other defendant, who entered a not guilty plea last week. >>> back now t

with a storm system that is off to the north and west, spinning its wheels over southern lake michigan. slowly trying to creep east. it is a slow mover. it does look that -- like that will get out of here as we head into the weekend. the rain will taper off and another part will sweep and and maybe keep the shower thread going. as far as precipitation, the rainfall totals are coming up from the south and west and pushing through. heavier downpours on the maryland-delaware border area. some patches of green in northern virginia. mostly light rain. scattered showers will be possible overnight even though we have seen some breaks in the cloud cover late today into the early morning. the potential is there for more clouds and an occasional shower. we are basically in the same weather pattern that will generate the occasional shower. temperatures have climbed into the lower 80's. kind of a summery feel to it. a wind out of the south- southeast. the front has slowed down but it is still generating showers. the moisture is being pulled up into the system off the atlantic. this will take a couple more

did some searching. i was able to actually find a small $6,000 grant from the state of michigan. but i have never done solar, i didn't know square one about how it was done. we bought panels, we figured out how to do it, and that was our first system. we needed to monitor the power and be able to track how much was coming in and out, and i did find products that would do this for us, but those products could cost thousands of dollars. you know, we didn't have a thousand dollars. we invented a way to read utility meters for essentially free. ♪ my goal is to see a cloud. and i want to see a nice smooth solar graph and then i want it to dip a little bit and know that a cloud just went over the solar panels. my wildest dreams is to have 100 locations in ypsilanti, all on solar ypsi, all being tracked in real time and ypsilanti would be the place to come for solar information. when i started, i was searching and i was looking in ten or twelve difference places, and so now we have a website where information has already been collated so someone can search on solar, find this site and hopef

. we see the low pressure system now moving across michigan, the trailing front is going to come blasting through here tomorrow and the showers will stay north of us but that low pressure system will have one more piece of energy that comes around it on saturday and that's where we will get those showers from. our temperature right now 77 degrees, we are going to see that dropping, thanks to these winds that are gusting to 22 miles an hour, bringing in the cooler and drier air that we've had off to the west. speaking of drier air, we measure that humidity more easily with a dew point temperature which yesterday was up near the upper 60s to 70 degrees, down to 52 degrees now. that usually gives us some idea of where our temperatures can bottom out and that's where we are headed tonight. i'll show you those lows in a moment. here you can see the beginning of those cooler temperatures coming in. this will get reinforced very big time tomorrow as our stronger push of colder air is going to come in with a second front and again that will happen tomorrow afternoon. you'll notice a band

michigan here. this whole area of trough is going to come right on top of us for the weekend. what does that mean? we're going to be chilly and with this cold air aloft, we're going to be cloudy and we're going to be showery, too, going through the next couple of days. it looks like the weekend not that great. not only is there going to be a weekend chill, but talking showers, too. the greatest threat of showers will be tomorrow. there's going to be some showers around on sunday. mostly cloudy tonight, possible shower out there later on. temperature gets down to 52 in town. spotty shower tomorrow morning. a little bit of sunshine. and we become cloudy with showers for all day parts tomorrow. nothing too heavy, but keep the umbrella handy because i think it will be heavy enough at times that you are going to wish you had the umbrella, especially at the maryland game tomorrow. plan for that. a little bit better on sunday, okay? not much better on sunday, but a little bit. you see the temperature there around 60 degrees both days. it's going to be breezy both days. >> and you can watch th
